The Ashaninka are one of the largest ethnic groups of indigenous communities in the Amazon rainforest. They have been forced to sell their land to guerrillas and drug traffickers to gain control. In addition to ethical issues, this threatens the Amazon by depriving it of a strong and caring relationship with the environment and inducing extractive measures with nature. Establishing sustainable measures such as cocoa bean cultivation is a great start to repatriate control of their land to indigenous communities, minimize the typical slash and burn agricultural techniques that afflict rainforests and encourage people to seek sustainable products.

The cocoa used in this chocolate comes from the Ashaninka tribe of Peru, a community that places special emphasis on growing cocoa according to the highest organic standards in terms of tradition, culture and quality. The intention of this chocolate is to directly benefit the Amazon rainforest from deforestation and improve the livelihoods of the Ashaninka families. By helping to guarantee the Asháninka a sustainable means of income, it will maintain their presence in the rainforest and deter outsiders who want to exploit the Amazon, such as loggers, drug traffickers and other illegal forces that threaten the ecosystem of this area.
